To study Art & Science, you need to have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline and to pass the entrance exam. Candidates should show a special interest in transdisciplinary projects and the ability to deal with techniques that experiment with different methods and media. The two-year programme is held in English so candidates should also be comfortable in conversing and writing in this language (no language certificate is necessary).

The entrance exam consists of three phases. Each phase requires a positive assessment to move on to the next step.
Phase 1 – Registration & submission

Letter of motivation (LoM) – stating your interest in art and science as well as in the approach of the course (What do I expect from the course? Why do I want to study this? What is my professional vision for the future?)

Digital portfolio – with your artistic and/or scientific works; if your portfolio is not in German/English, please translate the abstract only.)

Decision and notification: end-January 2022
Positive assessment of the first phase is a requirement for the second phase. Whether you have passed the first phase, you will be informed by email only by the Art & Science Office. (Any other communication you may have with the Office of Academic and Student Affairs regarding visas etc. does not imply that you have already passed the first phase).
Phase 2 – Written and practical tasks
22 and 23 February 2022 – online via zoom (links will follow)
10 am: tasks distribution;
4 pm of the same day: deadline tasks submission per email.
The second phase lasts two days and consists of two conceptual/creative tasks in the fields of art and science to be completed in English.
Decision and notification: 24 February 2022
Positive assessment of the second phase is a requirement for the third phase, the interview. You will be informed by email.
Phase 3 – Admission interview
25 February 2022 – online via zoom (links will follow)
a.m. CET, single appointments
In the third phase, your aptitude for the programme is reviewed in an interview with the team.
Positive assessment of all three phases is a requirement to pass the admission exam.
Publication of results
Between 28 February – 4 March 2022

Optional, for applicants who have not passed the exam; Please note that we cannot offer any further feedback beyond this one date.
Only in exceptional cases, when it is so ordered by the government due to covid-19 restrictions, the study is held online.
