Univ. Prof. Virgil Widrich
Virgil Widrich, born in Salzburg in 1967, has worked on numerous films and multimedia productions. His first feature film for the cinema, "Heller als der Mond" ("Brighter than the Moon", 2000) received several awards, and his short film "Copy Shop" won 35 international awards and was nominated for an Academy Award. His short "Fast Film" won 36 international awards, has so far been shown at over 400 festivals and in 2006 was included in the list of the "100 most important short films of the past 100 years" by 30 leading film critics at the Annecy Animation Festival.
2001 Virgil Widrich founded the multimedia company checkpointmedia.
From 2001 to 2007 Virgil Widrich was a partner in the Amour Fou film production company in Vienna and from 2004 to 2007 chairman of the " Verband der Filmregisseure Österreichs" ("Austrian Film Directors Association"). Widrich has taught or given guest lectures at the Vienna graphic art college the Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt, the Donau Universität in Krems, the institutes of higher education in Salzburg, Hagenberg and Graz, the SAE in Vienna and Munich, the Medialab at the Technical University in Munich, the ISPA Philosophicum in Vienna and many more besides.
From 2007 to 2010 he was university professor of digital art at the University of the Applied Arts in Vienna, since 2010 he has been leading the "Master of Art and Science at the same University.
