Anthropocene

The human species has become a large population, spread widely over the planet earth. Its consumption of raw materials is increasing exponentially and its relationship with the earth’s mantel is more intense than ever before. The throughput of raw materials is large. This means that humana are leaving traces in the earth's sediment for the first time in their existence.

This artistic work aims to collect evidences for our global Homo sapiens population at a time point that lies 65 Mio years ahead. An Atlas. It will contain artistic facsimile of fossils, depictions of sediments showing human impact, etc.
The chosen time point refers to the K-Pg extinction event that led to extinction of dinosaurs 65 Mio years ago and was caused by a major asteroid impact. It led to a general mass extinction and allowed mammalians to evolve. In the year 2015 planet earth is overdue a massive impact. (These impacts seem to happen in a regularity of 40 Mio years). After this impact an entire new group of species can evolve and create new intelligences. In the far future they might start to investigate the earth’s history and the history of living and find evidences for the existence of Homo sapiens and their culture.

The work aims to further investigate the dimensions and characteristics of our geological impact. It will also try to position humans in the large timescale that we are included in by reflecting on geological past and future with artistic approaches.
