Even a Dead Cat will Bounce if it Falls from a Great Height

2016, installation

The overarching topic of the project is a double approach to money, as an idea and as an object. in this duality, money brings together a vast range of topics: the symbolic aspect of money relates to the organisation of societies through their economic systems, to national identities and their history, to politics - how money should be distributed, how much money should be put into circulation, who decides who holds the money. then, the physical and concrete manifestation of the idea ‘money’, the coins and the bills, the cash. Money is material, it has palpable quali- ties, it has to be produced, it has to be distributed, it has to be stocked, it even has to be designed, and redesigned. It takes work and effort to make money, literally. Money can also be altered and destroyed.

Through the transformation of euro coins, this work seeks to raise questions about our perception of money.
