The ‘Art & Science’ master programme started in autumn 2009 at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. One and a half years later, 20 students presented their first exhibition in the Expositur Vordere Zollamtsstraße under the title ‘parameter{world} – parameters for every or no thing’. In response to the growing interest in the experimental potentials that reside in the combination of art and science, ‘Art & Science’ is the first master programme at the Angewandte to be held entirely in English, enabling the participation of students from countries like New Zealand, Romania, Hungary, Iceland, or Poland. The examination of the current polarity between science and art, the collision of the objective with the subjective in a ‘master particle accelera - tor’, and the contemplation of the resulting data with an artistic gaze yielded works that – in their stability or instability – skilfully float between established chairs.
