Institutional Critique and the Political Inscriptions in the Imagined Communities Represented By Institutions

Seminar with Andreas Spiegl

Andreas Spiegl studied art history at the University of Vienna and since 1990 he is teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. He held the position as Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Research from 2003 to 2011 and since 2015 is Head of the Institute for Art and Cultural Studies. His work focusses on the connection of theories of space and subject- and media theories. He has numerous publications on art, art and media
theory. He also works as a freelance curator and art critic, and collaborates with artists, dancers, fashion designers, photographers etc.

In the context of ‘doing research’ ‘in the feld’(/wild) and ‘writing/producing a research report’ in the ‘Caring. Enactments of Hetereogeneous Relationships’ annual project, we would like to look at different methods of research used in feldwork and writing. Through inviting guests to share their working processes with us, we will ask how these methods relate to what is observed, how they construct the entities produced and determine what we can know.
