Arbeitsstipendium for the project "On being a C.A.T 0.333333"
Scholarship from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research
Awarded to Rosie Benn-Squire on 29 September 2021 for her research project "On being a C.A.T 0.333333"
Rosie Benn's master project 'What's easier to train, a cat or a human?' approached concerns around food production and interspecies
relations. Her artistic research focused on projects that practise solidarity engagement with more-than-human animals.
She combined the on-site research of projects that focus on transitioning from animal to plant-based farming, with the exploration
of a personal dilemma - the ethical paradoxes encountered when raising cats. Within this project complexities of pet
culture, both human and cat food consumption were explored through diverse media with performative storytelling.
The project recently received a year-long working scholarship from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. This time round Rosie will focus her research on biocyclic vegan organic agriculture, in particular Förderkreis Biozyklisch-Veganer Anbau e.V. and the Adolph Hoops Society. In this new chapter of the project Rosie will explore organizational networks and certification labels that work towards solidarity interspecies relations and situate this study within a socio-cultural and philosophical context via artistic and experimental methodologies.
