Martin Reinhart Received the Award of Excellence 2025
Martin Reinhart received the Award of Excellence 2025, conferred by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research, in recognition of his outstanding doctoral dissertation
completed at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. The award honours the 40 best dissertations completed in Austria in the
previous academic year.
Reinhart was awarded for his dissertation 'In Dialogue with the Archive. On the Transformation of Media Evidence' submitted within the doctoral programme in Philosophy/Cultural Studies. The thesis develops a new understanding of the archive as a dynamic knowledge system, bringing together textual, visual, and media archives within a shared theoretical framework. Tracing the transformation of archival practices from the Enlightenment and the French Revolution to the algorithmic infrastructures of the digital present, the dissertation critically examines how technological, political, and epistemic shifts reshape notions of evidence, memory, and knowledge production.
The Award of Excellence, established in 2008 and funded through national student support resources, is presented annually upon nomination by Austrian universities. The award ceremony took place on 10 December 2025 at the Aula der Wissenschaften in Vienna, where the prizes were officially conferred.
Congratulations from all members of Art & Science!
