Aquarium - a utopian body

The human being is exhibited but does not recognise himself.
The physiology of the human body has developed in the context of the industrial revolution in constant interaction of socio-economic conditions, social interests and cultural thought patterns. The resulting context of specific values, forms of action and attitudes of the Western world is responsible for shaping a specific, subjective perception of foreign realities. This phenomenon is called deep play and resulting from it is: The passive-comfortable human being.

In a comfortable position, the human being lies in their upholstered landscape of their living space and directs their gaze outwards. The enveloping, high-quality clothing warms them behind the protective glass front, which provides a wide view of the uncomfortable outside world. The posture is passive and untouchable.

Sophie Olivia Taleja Schmidt, born 1995 in Berlin, studied textile and surface design in Glasgow, Berlin and St. Petersburg. She is interested in interstitial spaces, behavioral systems of the human body and identity. Her work ranges from textile arts and surface structures to painting and sculpture.
