Lightbulb

All organisms react to light—whether approaching, as in the case of mosquitoes, or avoiding, for example in the case of fleeing bugs. This is predictable behaviour in animals, but is our own behaviour that calculable as well? Introspectively, we might know that our intentions are complex and not predictable at all, sometimes not even to ourselves. However, oftentimes, external observers would still be able to accurately predict our behaviour without experiencing anything going on within us.

Lightbulb turns the perspective around and lets the light react to humans. Obviously rather simple in comparison to a living organism, it unfolds its complexity by leaving the observer to infer what is going on, building on their very own ideas and convictions.

The reactive installation serves as a reminder: Visitors will be seen, their behaviour will influence the environment, and then again, their predictions about the environment will affect how they act.
