As a finalization of the project “The Consequence of Decisions”, a work tackling the decision-making-process in creative work through joining together randomization and algorithms, I further explore the notion of decision in the creative process through a number of animations. Sequencing frames of different steps in the creation of an artistic work through a gif-animation grants the small decisions or frames an equal role as the final outcome of the work. In the animation, the image is continuously flashing, always displaying two or more possible outcomes and never settling down.
The representation of the tree itself makes a double analogy to the decision-tree graph used to aid the process of making a decision in any given situation. Although the decision-tree-graph was not the starting point, it conveniently comes together through a joint metaphor – that in the creative process one idea leads to many others and vice versa – whether starting from the trunk and branching to the tips, or starting from the roots and lowering the possible outcomes to only one.
