"How Will I Know"? (ars sciendi)

Workshop by Tonica Hunter

A song originally written for pop icon Janet Jackson, How Will I Know in fact became one of the biggest hits of Whitney Houston's debut album released in 1985. The accompanying music video also broke Houston into the new media format of MTV and with that exposed her music to a new younger demographic thirsty for groundbreaking musical and visual shifts which in turn would go on to define and develop both popular music and culture for the decades that followed.

"How Will I Know"? is an introductory session on knowledge development and application by incorporating vast and varied starting points, inputs and impulses. Participants are encouraged, by considering both art and science as 'ways’ of knowing, to explore what constitutes knowledge for them and incentivises them to know and develop knowledge through their works and practices. The aim is to build a learning community with participants by levelling the exchange between "teacher" and "student" by defining an environment which facilitates broader conceptions of knowing.
