About - Yeonwoo Chang
Yeonwoo Chang(she/her) is an artist based in Vienna, Dresden and South Korea. She received her Bachelor's degree in Fine Art(University
of Seoul) and a Diploma further in Fine Art(Class of Susan Philipsz, Academy of Fine Art Dresden). She was awarded the Diploma
Prize Freundes Kreis HfBK Dresden(2023) for her Diploma work.
The artist's interest lies in the multi-dimensional layers of cultural and historical inheritance, particularly concerning
raw materials and infrastructures. Her recent research aims to integrate physical and non-physical mediums, encompassing ceramics,
installations, performative gestures, writing, sound, and video, in order to question the origins and the labor involved in
the subject. These artistic practices engage with the discourse of decentralization, decolonization, and dematerialization,
with the goal of re-navigating the East Asian identity within society and contemporary art.
She is an enthusiastic epicure and a cook, a tea drinker, and an amateur Kintsugi restorer. She occasionally gives lectures
and workshops on cultural topics including Korean ceramics and Kimchi.
