133 Yarmulkes: An Exploration of the Viennese Jewish
133 Yarmulkes is an illustrated book for readers ages 10-14 that explores the joys and hardships of Viennese Jewish life through
the perspective of an 11-year-old Jewish narrator named Davi. Davi’s best friend Mir is preparing to have the first B’nai
Mitzvah in a decade at a small synagogue in Vienna. In order to make Mir's B’nai Mitzvah extra memorable, Davi attempts to
help Mir crochet 133 yarmulkes for the event. Throughout this project, Davi and Mir discover new aspects of the Viennese Jewish
experience that are not always easy to process.
