When Tesla in 1875 studied in Graz, Austria, he was fascinated by a model of a Dwarf Elephant in the collection of the “Ehrenwerte Gesellschaft der Freunde der Natur” (“Honourable Club of Friends of Nature”). This encounter inspired him to develop a special shoe for small people that would allow the wearer to hover above ground. He worked on this idea for decades. 30 years after his encounter with the Dwarf Elephant, he discussed his idea of shrunken men with Sir Francis Galton.

Did this intellectual exchange anticipate the human genome project? Are we any closer to realizing the dream of a flying and optimized mankind?
