BONE SOUP AND POPPY SEEDS
Bone Modification in Professional Dance, Installation
Dance can be art and science practice at the same time. Training the body to become a skilled professional dancer is a highly
scientific practice: it involves anatomy and sports science. However, the outcome of all the training is performance art.
The artistic outcome is more important than the scientific reality of the body. In the name of Art, many dancers suffer physically
and psychologically. In the wake of cultural and social changes, people working in the professional dance field must realize
that some traditional practices are not ethical anymore. Dancers are such disciplined individuals, but most often, we only
see the surface of their existence. The performance "Bone Soup and Poppy Seeds" attempts to shed light on the toxic culture
surrounding professional dance by scientifically proving an unhealthy lifestyle's damaging effect and showing real personal
consequences.
