Retrospective to the I

Master Project | Malashree Suvedi | Retrospective to the I
2023, Multimodale Installation, Textilinstallation, Prosa-Poesie
I am throwing myself a retrospective, by creating a piece to piece co-dependent exhibition. I work with memory, feminism, invisible work, gratitude, gifts from friends, textile, journal entries, logbooks, poetry, painting, sculpture, prose writing, stories and narratives from communities, friends, and lovers. Centring myself in a partially sincere and partially ironic way, my work is a play on the concept of a retrospective; and mainly is about the question: “who has gotten to be the I?”. My work explores the multitudinous nature of the I: it is the narratives and histories and structures and institutions we carry that shape us, nevertheless an individual I still exists. How many stories are there within how many stories?
