SYNTEXT

Most of us use it every day, effortlessly applying complex rules, understanding novel concepts and interacting with one another in different situations. In fact, you’re using this ability right now.
"SYNTEXT" is about exploring language through de- and reconstruction. Each slide tray contains 80 meaningful linguistic elements, therefore using two projectors yields 6400 potential combinations. Ideally, two people participate, imitating the reciprocity of the creative process we engage in while using language.
Do you find some compositions funny, nonsensical, or poetic? Do some sound like “real words”? What context do you imagine for their use? Lean back, let your mind roam freely and see what associations come up. Play, project, explore. Open doors you didn’t even know were there all along.

Flora Safar, born 1997, is a linguist and artist from Vienna. She works in different mediums such as illustration, painting, street art and film. In the MA Art & Science she aims to pursue issues in cognitive sciences and explore the mechanisms of the mind through artistic praxis.
