2026, Clay, soil, digital media

This work emerges from the need to participate in collective remembrance devoted for the human and more-than-human lives that have been lost since 7 October 2023 and throughout what is being described as an ongoing genocide in Gaza (Albanese, 2024)*.
This is a glimpse of the process of people coming together to donate their knowledge and time to create pieces representing the plant species kept in seed banks destroyed across Palestine. As well as to record the names of Press professionals who have been killed to silence their voices.

Bio:
“People of soil” is a group of human beings with the urge to keep alive the memory of victims of the ongoing conflict in Gaza and neighboring territories, inflicted by Israel. The focus is on the victims that were preserving biological memory and archiving the destruction of the territory.

By being together, the group explored the topics of seed biology, Palestinian agricultural practices, journalism and the different ways we can create collective spaces for remembrance.

Art and Science Student Carolina Páez Vélez is part of "People of soil".
