Memorial for the Green
2026, Soil, water, light projection, mirror, sound installation
Memorial for the Green is for those taken during recent protests and war in Iran, and for those who remain. This work is a
spatial sound installation that explores recordings collected from mothers across different regions of Iran, singing lullabies,
songs first carried within the womb and later repeated at the child’s grave. The composition is distributed across multiple
speakers embedded within the walls, allowing each lullaby to emerge from a different point in space. A small light source
projects onto water and reflects via a horizontal mirror onto the soil, creating blurred, unstable light. This visual field
evokes the child’s perception in the womb, where light is sensed but never fully seen. The installation frames mourning as
a shared passage held across distance, memory, and matter.
