2023-03-10 - Sanja Iveković. Works of Heart (1974–2022), Kunsthalle Wien

In the context of "Experimental Studies II" class, which examines exhibitions as a media, we visited the exhibition "Sanja
Iveković. Works of Heart (1974–2022)" that was shown in Kunsthalle Wien. Since the 1970s, Sanja Iveković has taken a clear
feminist and activist stance in her artistic practice, persistently addressing gender and political issues. With her uncompromising
way of combining aesthetic and political concerns, she has influenced generations of artists and curators. The exhibition
had a retrospective character; yet at the same time Iveković works have a standing in the here and now: Her art wants to leave
traces in reality; it has a performative power that strives for gender justice, anti-fascism, the emancipation of collective
memory and solidarity.
2023-03-27 - Studio visit Monica LoCascio

In the context of the "Methods and Practices in Art & Science" class we visited alumni Monica LoCascio in her studio in the
abandoned building of the University of Economics. Monica gave us a vivid insight into her artistic career and her current
life, answering very specific questions about her practice and the economic aspects of her profession. She addressed
topics such as the pricing of her artworks, the financing of her studio and how she positions herself as a female artist.
2023-03-28 - "Jeremy Deller. Warning Graphic Content - Prints & Posters 1993–2023", Franz Josef Kai 3
As part of the "Experimental Studies II" curators Fiona Liewehr and Edek Batz introduced the newly established and privately
funded contemporary art space FJK3 and gave us a tour through the current exhibition, a tribute to English artist and Turner
Prize winner Jeremy Deller. Among other things, Fiona addressed the question of her overall curatorial concept and spoke about
the criteria she uses to select the themes and focal points for the exhibitions. She also addressed the question of how a
new exhibition venue can establish itself in the Viennese cultural scene. Edek Batz talked about his many years of collaboration
with Jeremy Deller and how the exhibition on show came about.
2023-03-31 - "The New African Portraiture. Shariat Collections" , Kunsthalle Krems

On Lilian's initiative, we went on an excursion to Krems to see the group exhibition "The New African Portraiture" at the
local Kunsthalle, which brought together leading figures from a generation of figurative artists of African origin. The exhibition
was curated by the internationally renowned art expert Ekow Eshun, who also was responsible for the "Black Fantastic" exhibition
at the Hayward Gallery, London in the summer of 2022. Unfortunately, we were not able to get a curator's tour, so we visited
the exhibition in dialogue with a guide from the Kunsthalle.
