Dina Karaman (b.1986) is an experimental filmmaker, editor, archive researcher, and educator.
She makes experimental films and installations using found footage alongside material from her own audiovisual archives. Her method is primarily based on discrepant montage techniques, where sound and image are nonsynchronized and come from different contexts and sources, fusing into new semantic forms. In her practice, Dina also explores the phenomenon of Inner Cinema, which relates to mental imagery and inner sound triggered by external stimuli. Part of her focus is on developing educational programs and workshops centered around archival and found footage film, aural or imageless film, and creative thinking within group dynamics.
