About - Leah Giertz
Leah Giertz (she/they) (b. 2000, Basel) is an artist and musician. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the Zurich
University of the Arts. Her work focuses on making invisible matter visible. She has been exploring the effects of systems
of power on marginalized bodies and is currently developing sculptures and installations that integrate performative aspects,
aiming not only to represent but also to involve bodies.
Her work engages with socio-political issues such as racism, sexism, gender, and sexuality. She collects stories from specific
groups to explore connections and intersectionality, transforming these perspectives into poetic forms of text, audio, or
video. In this process, she seeks to uncover truths. For sculptural realizations, she uses materials such as photographs and
objects as references, transforming them into casts and constructions. Beyond her studies, she is passionate about decolonization
processes, queering spaces, and fostering collectivity.
