About - Markela Koniordou

Markela Koniordou, a native of Athens, Greece, commenced her academic journey with a BSc in Biology and MRes in Biomedical Research at University College London. Her professional trajectory, spanning 15 years, has ranged from research to communications to project- and NGO- management within the realm of human health. Her expertise traverses diverse domains from basic laboratory science and clinical development against cancer and infectious diseases to public health and initiatives that foster patient or citizen engagement.

Her parallel explorations in dance, movement and sound, together with a commitment to addressing environmental concerns has prompted her to actively seek opportunities to forge meaningful connections between the realms of art and science, including the establishment of ‘Stitch’ in 2010—an NGO dedicated to advancing environmental awareness through artistic expression, her research role the ‘Digital remains: E-waste’ (2017)  photography exhibition and in the ‘E-LIFE’ (2018) documentary film, her participation in dance performances as public interventions and serving as an Associate Producer of the award-winning ‘MICROBIOME’ (2022) documentary film.
