Simon Sailer
2015, Text and Installation

A literary text constitutes the core of Sailer’s work. He reiterates one of Ernst Bloch’s earlier prose, creating a compact and densified version. The text is then printed on light sensitive paper and placed into a protective wooden shall. A thick curtain prevents light from reaching the paper. The viewer is forced to stick their head into the piece and carefully light the interior of the box, in order to shed light on the content of the scripture. An option that is not as readily available to the protagonist of the story.

Den Kern der Arbeit bildet ein auf einem Stoff von Ernst Bloch basierender Text. Simon Sailer hat die kleine Geschichte aus dem Fru?hwerk des Philosophen verdichtend neu interpretiert und auf lichtempfindliches Material gedruckt. Das derart entstandene fragile Blatt wird von einer an der Wand montierten Holzumbauung, die mit einem schweren Stoff verhangen ist, geschu?tzt. Die Betrachtenden mu?ssen ihren Kopf in die Arbeit stecken und sie vorsichtig belichten, um den literarischen Text zu erschließen. Eine Variante u?brigens, die dem Protagonisten der Geschichte nicht offen steht.
