SymbiothicA as an artistic laboratory: A lecture by Oron Catts, University of Western Australia

“SymbioticA” is an innovative facility at the University of Western Australia that functions as an artistic laboratory where biosciences can be explored through research, critique, and a “hands-on” approach.
In his lecture Oron Catts talks about the concepts and background of his own work and about SymbioticA as a research centre within the School of Anatomy and Human Biology, where it is possible for researchers and students from different disciplines to collaborate on projects. Through the transgression of art and biology, SymbioticA aims to emphasise how culturally shaped ideas influence scientific findings and also criticise the manipulation and handling of life in the course of research processes.
