Yannis Ziogas is joining the Art & Science Department on 12 January 2022 to exchange on the long-lasting project Visual March to Prespa.
Visual March to Prespa is a process that has been realised since 2007 in the area of Prespa. Visual March to Prespa organizes, on a yearly basis, visual activities that explore the landscape, the culture and the ecological dimension of the area. At the same time, Visual March to Prespes has established networks of exchange between the instructors, and the students the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Western Macedonia (EETF), the local community, and the broader Greek, Balkan and international artistic and scientific community.
A thematic is developed every year, as a study of field research. The thematic areas of the previous years were: Παγκόσμια Τοπία/Global Landscapes (2009), Extended/Absolute Fields (2010), Political Topographies (2011), Beyond the borders/walkers in the Borders of contemplation (2012), Survival Processes (2013-2014), The flows of Reality/the dominance of water as spiritual material (2015-2016), Νοητά και Πραγματικά Μνημεία (2017-2018).
The organiser of the Visual March to Prespes is the 1st Painting Workshop of EETF. Coordinator of the process is Yannis Ziogas, painter, Associate Professor of the 1st Painting Workshop, EETF.
The activities of the Visual March have been presented in national and international exhibitions and conferences, in six books and conference proceedings. In 2014 the activities of the Visual March were presented in a four-month exhibition in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki. In 2019 was organised the one-week International Encounters/Conference Walking Practices/Walking Art/Walking Bodies that transformed the area into an open workshop of ideas.
During the 15 years of the implementation of Visual March to Prespa, more than 2000 artists, scholars, students, and amateurs of art have participated in introducing the area of Prespa as a place of international cultural exchange.

Yannis Ziogas is a painter. He explores other areas of visual expression such as installations and walking processes. He is a Professor at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts (EETF) of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Western Macedonia (UOWM) and has served as Dean of the School of Fine Arts of UOWM (2016-21). He studied Mathematics (University of Athens, 1988). Σπούδασε Μαθηματικά (Πτυχίο, Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών, 1988). He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts (1991, New York), and a PhD from the University of the Aegean (2013). He had twenty-three one-person shows and participated in numerous exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He has published essays on art theory and the books: The byzantine Malevich 2000), Tarkovsky in Chalkis (2007), Aspects of Censorship (2008, collective volume), The Diary of a PD/407 (2012). Since 2007 he has organized the artistic process Visual March to Prespa. He has organized international encounters and conferences and has edited the proceedings on contemporary Aesthetics and its Practices with an emphasis on Walking Art (most recently, the International Encounters/Conferences Walking as a Question, 2021 and Walking Practices/Walking Art/Walking Bodies, 2019, both realized in Prespa, Greece and the e-publication Walking Art/Walking Aesthetics, Interartive, 2018).
