2012, Performance — shown in Presentations 24.01.2012.
CaveArt is audiovisual duo of Václav Peloušek and Ondej Merta. They make music on hand made hardware true digital synthesizers, which they design together. Their music is highly influenced by free improvising experimental music but also by radical 8-bit, chiptune and dubstep. Some of the parts of the music are algorithmically generated. The visual part is made by another device controlling special goggles of flickering light. They are watched through closed eyes, and they stimulate the visual cortex of the brain. This technique generates visual patterns in viewers mind that are controllable from the stage. They also have narrative elements in the performance which is present mostly in the names of the songs and in abstract narrative structure modelled by the music and visual.
Goggles and Purkinje patterns: The goggles were inspired by a phenomenon called Purkinje patterns. This phenomenon was first described by Jan E. Purkinje in 1819 and it is nowadays examined as a key phenomena into hallucinations. These patterns are induced in brain when exposed to a flickering light or when subject suffers sensory deprivation. There is also theory that claims that the first cave paintings that were abstract were attempt to capture these patterns.
