(Inter)Section is a multimedia installation developed alongside practice-led research investigating sectional epistemology: how knowledge emerges through conditions of partial access, in other words, what can be known under resistance? The installation consists of four interconnected elements, which were all related to an Alpine braidplain - Boscioli (CH), which is a place with traces of a natural disaster. It has been a field working location during my artist-in-residence and since then.

The spectrograms (time-frequency data) displayed on a lay-flat monitor at the corner play a more important role in the research context as a methodological interface; they remain in the exhibition as traces of a methodological process rather than explanatory documents. Meanwhile, it marked how its texture, time, and frequency can be associated with being just scientific data.

What is projected on the wall is the two-channel video. One channel presents a sequence of multiple focused long takes recorded at Boscioli, while the other captures the extensive landscape from the time before sunset to complete darkness, which was documented in a single, uninterrupted 59-minute long take.

On the platform close to the floor, there are extremely 1 mm thin and fragmented sheets of mica schist (a type of metamorphic rock from the site) that were produced through repeated acts of cutting and faceting to the boundary of becoming

fragments. All of them employ a precise language based on cut, yet it unfolds theminto an expression with resonance – they form a constellation among interwoven spatiality, temporality, and materiality.

Thus, the two large vertical glass panels materialize the role of sound and the mathematical mechanism in the original method: sound is transmitted and reflected within the space; meanwhile, the window and framing connotation here also embodies the role of the window function in the Fourier transform, which converts the sonic data into a spectrogram. Furthermore, its subtle reflection includes all the elements within the space and implies how different “sections” that appear in the space are isomorphically developed.

Rather than illustrating the written thesis, the installation approaches the same research question: “If a field can only be accessed through a specific interface, what can be known?” through material, spatial, and temporal conditions. The project (Inter)sections here proposes a practice-led interdisciplinary perspective but also carries a very personal weight based on the artist's experience, expertise, and memories.
