"Das Fest" MAK | Kigi Kogelnik "Now Is the Time" at Kunstforum | Curational tour at MAK: "/IMAGINE: A Journey into The New Virtual"

2023-05-02 - „The Fest“, MAK


Curator Brigitte Felderer guided us through her exhibition "The Fest", which she conceived and realised on behalf of the MAK. In this context, the feast appears less as a pleasure than as an indicator of social conditions and states. Brigitte gave us an insight into her extensive historical research, which centred on the museum's collection but also went far beyond it. The declared aim of her concept was to trace the significance of the festival outside courtly life and outside the European context. Interesting in this context was the reference to the events of working-class culture, some of which also made use of the insignia of courtly culture. This excursion took place as a part of the course "Experimental Studies II“, which examines exhibitions as a media.
 


2023-05-08 - "Kiki Kogelnik: Now Is the Time“, Kunstforum Wien

Curator Lisa Ortner-Kreil gave us a backstage tour, during which she explained the history of the Kunstforum on the one hand and how her current exhibition came about on the other. The planned 45 minutes soon turned into one and a half hours and Lisa was able to give us an understanding of both her work as a curator and the work of the Austrian artist Kiki Kogelnik. Kogelnik's work, who spent most of her life in New York, is being fully appreciated for the first time with this exhibition, and the conception therefore took place in very close consultation with the Kiki Kogelnik Foundation. In return, the curator was able to inspect the artist's personal documents and correspondence and thus convey contents and contexts that would have been neglected in a purely art-historical show. It was very interesting to learn more about the way exhibitions are planned and realised in the Kunstforum and what the time and financial framework conditions are for this.

2023-05-16 - MAK - curatorial tour through the exhibition "/IMAGINE: A Journey into The New Virtual" about generative AI at the MAK followed by a discussion with curator Marlies Wirth.

Marlies gave us an interesting insight on the different topics within the exhibition and how they see it as a snapshot in time. We discussed apart from the exhibition also the exhibition design as they curated in together with a studio who also did the exhibition design.
